Cuba defeats Venezuela in final game of Latin American and Caribbean League

The Cuban team won the first edition of the Latin American and Caribbean League, beating Venezuela 9-1 in the decisive game on Wednesday. The Cubans scored eight of their nine runs between the fourth and seventh frame. Hector OLIVERA and Alexander MAYETA hit homeruns. Elier SANCHEZ started and was relieved by Jonder MARTINEZ, who received the win. Infielder Yulieski GOURRIEL did not play, due a minor injury.
On the Venezuelan site, Leovildo VARGAS pitched three-plus innings, allowing three hits, three runs and three base on balls. Former major leaguer Beiker GRATEROL followed on the mound. Denis TORRES provided the only run with a solo-homerun in the eighth.
Cuba and Venezuela played four games at the tournament against each other, splitting the series. Manuel RAMIREZ (Ven) got the MVP-award, hitting two homeruns.
