Challengers travel to Eagles in lone NLA doubleheader

by John Baum

Last weekend’s action in Switzerland showed once again that the Therwil Flyers (14-1 )are looking to dethrone the champion Bern Cardinals (11-3) this season in what is turning out to be one of the more entertaining years in Swiss baseball. The Flyers flexed their muscles once again by dismantling the improved ball club from Sissach (4-14), 14-4, and 14-2.

The Lausanne Indians (9-7) took a big step towards the playoffs by taking down the Reussbuehl Eagles (3-13), pushing 35 runs across in the doubleheader. The Cardinals looked like a team that expects to win, but doesn’t want it bad enough against the Wil Devils (6-12). Dropping their third game of the season, already eclipsed their total from last year. With only a few games left, and only one team having secured a playoff berth, the Flyers, it looks like anything can and will happen down the stretch!

CHALLENGERS LOOK TO KEEP UP WITH INDIANS BY SWEEPING WOUNDED EAGLES
The Zurich Challengers (7-7), after an awful start, find themselves in familiar territory, in the hunt for the playoffs. They must come home from Reussbuehl with two wins under their belt, or risk losing a chance for the playoffs. The Challengers, under new leadership from recently promoted head coach, James Sanders, are on the outside looking in, as they chase the heavy hitting Indians.

The Eagles, still struggling with injury, will look to ruin the chances of the team that kept them out of the finals last year, a 2-3 series loss in the semis’. The Challenger do look to be hitting their stride, and the Eagles, being at the lowest point in recent memory should play into the Zurich ball clubs favor. The Challengers have been there done this…they find a way to win when they need to, and they need it this weekend! Zurich wins two…
