KNTU wins Ukrainian Cup for 8th time

On Saturday the third and last game of the Ukrainian Cup Final was played. KNTU (2000, 2002, 2003, 2006-2010) captured its eight Cup title and the fifth in a row by sweeping ATMA in the best-of-five championship series.

Ukrainian Roster for U21 European Championship

Mister-Baseball has received the Ukrainian roster for the upcoming Under-21 European Championship in Brno, Czech Republic (August 17-22), which consists of six players, who already played in the Seniors Tournament in Stuttgart, Heidenheim and Neuenburg. Dmytro Limarenko, Roman Maifat, Kostyantyn Korolev, Maksym Symchyna, Bogdan Stovba and Roman Boyko finished in eleventh place in Germany, losing all five games during the preliminary round. The Ukraine didn’t have a team at the U21 European Championship in Pamplona in 2008. They will open the 2010 tourney on Tuesday against Italy.

Ukrainian Roster for 2010 European Championship

Mister-Baseball has received a 23-player roster of the Ukrainian National Team for the 2010 European Championship. After qualifying for the tournament in Trnava, Slovakia in 2008, the Ukraine is placed into Group A together with Germany, defending champion Netherlands, France, Belgium and the Czech Republic. In their first game they will square off with the hosts in Stuttgart on July 23.

The team is led by veteran outfielder Dmitri Nelipa and infielder Ruslan Deykun, as well as slick fielder Denys Agapov and center fielder Andrew Kubalskyy. They are missing one of their better pitchers with southpaw Alex Trofimenko. So KNTU’s 19-year-old Dmytro Limarenko heads the pitching staff, after going 1-1 with an ERA of 1.50 and 23 strikeouts (seven walks) in 18 innings at the European Cup Qualifier in Brest a few weeks ago.

Overall the squad is a balanced mix of older, experienced players and young prospects, ranging from 39-year-old infielder Baserra Raydel Arbley to 16- and 17-year-old infielders Roman Boyko and Artem Lopata. It is going to be interesting how the Ukraine will fare against the other teams in a tough group. In five European Championships their best finishes were two ninth places in 1995 and 2007.

During the Koloditsky Cup 2010 over 20 coaches from Belarus, Moldova, Russia and the Ukraine attended a hitting clinic run by MLB Academy coach Giuseppe Masselucci. Two days session was very interesting and hopefully will help Eastern baseball to develop.

The Ukrainian Baseball championship started on Wednesday with three games. Defending champion KNTU started its 2009 campaign with a 10-0 shutout. RK DYuSSh-Dinamo received the promotion to the first division this winter, but began with a 1-11 loss. Also playing in the league is KVINT from Pridnestrovie, which prevailed in ten innings on opening day.

Weeks after winning the National Baseball Championship in the Ukraine, KNTU-OSHVSM also collected the trophy in the Cup tournament. The team from Kirovograd swept the best-of-three series against TNU (Simferopol) 3-0 (6-3, 4-2, 5-0).

KNTU wins Ukrainian Championship

The season in the Ukrainian National Championship ended last weekend. KNTU missed the opportunity to produce a perfect season, but still won the league title with an impressive 29-1 record, while outscoring their opponents 443-71. They had a chance to remain undefeated, but lost the first game of the final series 4-11 against TNU. It is their 13th championship. Since 1995 the only other team to win a trophy was ATMA Kiev. The Ravens finished in sixth with just one victory in 30 games and gets relegated into Division B in 2009.

KNTU wins Koloditsky Cup 2008

The Koloditsky Cup in the Ukraine went underway the past few days. Teams from the host country, Belarus, Pridnestrovie and Lithuania participated since last Thursday. KNTU won the tournament, beating Brest Region in the finals by score of 4-2.Results:

Ukrainian National Baseball Cup: KNTU victorious in first two games

The first two games of the Cup of Ukraine were played last weekend. KNTU (Kirovograd) won both games in Kiev at ATMA. The series will resume play next weekend in Kirovograd.

The Rivne West Fire beat the Sumy Ravens twice this week.

In yesterdays games of the Ukrainian Baseball League KTNU beat ATMA 7-,3, TNU beat Diamant and VINT beat Ilyichevets 9-0 (forfeit/technical win). The leagues will play doubleheaders today.
