On the mound Juan Carlos Campos replaces Luis Alberto Amaro as foreign starting pitcher. He is a former minor leaguer in the Houston Astros organization. Between 2000 and 2003 the 31-year-old Venezuelan had an ERA of 2.96 in 285 1/3 innings. Back healthy is infielder Camilo Alberto Gonzalez. From the Viladecans farm team Javier Monzon and Yuri Despaigne will be promoted to the Division de Honor roster.

We already reported about the acquisitions of Eric Segura, Abel Jimenez, Kevin Malone and Daniel Cepin. No longer part of the team are Emmanuel Febles, Oscar Angulo, Jose Luis Salazar, Ricardo Hernandez, Jason Friedman, Rafael Llames, Cole Yanco Rancoll, Felix Isasi, Sebastian Tesouro and Jose Carreras.

Miqueleiz gave a short interview to the blog of the Catalan Baseball and Softball Federation. He mentions winning the Copa del Rey and qualification for the playoffs as goals for the upcoming season in the Spanish Division de Honor. Baseball Barcelona is entering as defending champion and is also representing Spain in the European Cup.

Infielder Emmanuel Febles, who also can man the outfield, is leaving the FC Barcelona after five years to join the Pamplona based team. He batted .289/.395/.423 with two homeruns, five triples, three doubles, 39 runs and 16 RBI in 36 games, winning the championship.

On the other hand one of the key players is leaving Baseball Navarra. After seven years in Pamplona, two with CD Amaya and five with Navarra, Juan Jose Lopez didn’t receive a new contract for 2012. The shouthpaw had a 3-6 record with an ERA of 3.42 in 18 games (16 starts). He collected 116 strikeouts and 48 walks in 113 innings.

After being in the top four in 2010, Baseball Navarra dropped to eighth place in the final standings of the 2011 season. They won just 12 of the 36 games this year.

Also the FC Barcelona will be replaced by a team, called Baseball Barcelona. More details about this project are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. Also El Llano Gijon is back in the Division de Honor, moving up from the second division and replacing last year’s tenth-ranked club Sevilla Red Sox.

The 2012 season in the Division de Honor starts on the weekend of February 25 and 26. Defending champion Baseball Barcelona will meet with Baseball Navarra. The first break will be for the Copa Del Rey on April 7 and 8 with Baseball Barcelona, CB Sant Boi, CB Viladecans and the Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz. The season also is interrupted on April 21&22 (RFEBS Elections), May 12&13 and June 23&24.

The season ends on the weekend of July 21&22. Two weeks later the playoffs start with a champion determined no later than August 12. Baseball Barcelona will represent Spain in the European Cup, trying to defend their lone remaining A-Pool spot.

Spanish Juvenile Baseball Championship for Regional Selections

Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife was the host to the 2011 Spanish Juvenile Baseball Championship and four selections got together to find out who reigns the category this year. Canary Islands and Catalunya made it into the finals while Navarra and Madrid were left to play for third place. That match was won by Navarra with a 5-4 score after trailing Madrid 0-4 at the end of inning number three. Canary Island had already a 1-0 advantage in games from the preliminary stage and the first of the two scheduled final matches would be enough for the hosts to maintain their crown the hold for the third year in a row now.

This was the first time the Spanish Federation held a national championship for young categories on the Canary Islands and the success both in terms of organization and quality play for sure will bring more events to Tenerife.

CB Viladecans improved to 18-12 in 2011 with wins of 5-4 and 7-5 over Halcones de Vigo last weekend in the Spanish Division de Honor. With the sweep they are comfortably in fifth in the standings and could make a late-season run towards fourth place. Halcones dropped to 9-21 and eighth.

CB Sant Boi swept a doubleheader against CD Pamplona at Burlada. In game one Ruben Fente (W 1-2) went the distance to lead CB to a 4-2 victory. Gabriel Guerrero hit a solo homerun for Pamplona. Rafael Rivas scored twice for the guests from Catalonia. Alexis Fumero (L 4-11) kept his team in the game, issuing eight hits, three runs (1 ER) and no walks in eight frames.

In the second match Sant Boi scored five runs in the fifth and six in the eighth for a lopsided 16-1 win. Daniel Martinez, William Domero and Xavier Civit hit homeruns and combined for seven RBI. Marc Carrillo drove in three. Daniel Matias (W 2-0) conceded two hits and a walk in five scoreless innings. Eneko Del Burgo (L 0-5) gave up nine hits, eight runs and a bb in 4 1/3 innings.

FC Barcelona – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz 6-3, 3-4

Leading 2-0 after seven innings in game two of a doubleheader against the Tenerife Marlins, the FC Barcelona was just six outs away from celebrating the championship in the Spanish Division de Honor last Saturday. But the Marlins rallied for four runs on a wild pitch, a big two-run error and a bases loaded walk in the top of the eighth en route to a 4-3 win. Barcelona tried to come back in the ninth, but only managed a one-out RBI single by Jason Friedman to cut the deficit to a run. Jesus Golindano and Pau Sancho had driven in runs earlier in the game. Eric Gonzalez (W 4-1) allowed seven hits, three runs and two walks in nine innings for the win. Jorge Balboa (L 10-1) was charged with his first loss of the season, conceding five hits, four runs (2 ER) and seven bb in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out eleven. Reliever Andres Gimeno walked six of the ten batters he faced.

In game one the FC Barcelona had prevailed 6-3. Emmanuel Febles went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs. Oscar Angulo drove in three. Richard Montiel gave Puerto Cruz a short-lived 2-1 lead with a two-run double in the third. Ricardo Hernandez (W 13-0) struck out eleven in nine innings, giving up ten hits, three runs and a walk. Yoel Hernandez (L 7-4) allowed ten hits, six runs (5 ER) and three bb in 3 1/3 innings.

But even though the FC Barcelona couldn’t complete the sweep, the championship will be eventually in the books, as they still sport a five-game lead with six games to go.

The Astros Valencia dispatched the Sevilla Red Sox 18-3 and 14-1. In game one the Astros scored twelve runs in bottom of the fifth to blow things wide open. Whitney Robinson-Pierce highlighted the rally with a pair of three-run homeruns. Sandel Cuevas also went deep in the frame. Raul Pena hit a three-run homerun for Sevilla. San Inazio Bilbao swept their two-game series against Baseball Navarra. In game one three runs in the sixth helped Bilbao to overcome a 1-2 deficit in a 6-3 win. Kelvin Marianucci homered and drove in two for San Inazio. Adolfo Gonzalez had three hits, scored all three Navarra runs and also went deep. Fidel Torres Mane (W 2-2) picked up the win with 5 1/3 innings of solid relief. Juan Jose Lopez (L 2-5) allowed five hits, four runs (2 ER) and six bb in six innings.

In the second match Alberto Magallon (W 6-8) led Bilbao to a 4-1 win, issuing five hits, a run and a walk in nine innings. Javier Flores drove in two. Joseba San Andres added a two-run homerun. Andres Casado (L 4-4) conceded six hits, four runs and two bb in six innings.

The FC Barcelona has to wait at least one more week to celebrate its championship in the Spanish Division de Honor. On Saturday they split a doubleheader against the Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz, but maintained its five-game lead in the standings with six games to go. The Marlins scored four runs in the top of the eighth in game two to avoid the sweep and to delay the festivities.

Halcones de Vigo and CD Pamplona settled for the split this weekend in the Spanish Division de Honor. In game one Pamplona scored two quick runs en route to a 2-1 win. Alexis Fumero (W) struck out eleven in a complete game, allowing just eight hits, a run and two walks. Jose Angel Navas (L) collected even 14 Ks in nine innings, but also issued two runs (1 ER) on four hits and three bb.

In the second game Fumero went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, four runs and six RBI playing right field and third base. However CD still lost 12-15, as Halcones scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to decide the outcome of a wild game. Angel Virguez drove in four for Vigo. Marcos Trillo had four hits, two runs and two RBI. Alejandro Carrillo (W) received the win in relief. Eneko Del Burgo (L) took the complete game loss.

CB Sant Boi – FC Barcelona 10-11, 5-9

With two wins over CB Sant Boi the FC Barcelona made a big step towards winning the championship in the Spanish Division de Honor. In game one Barca nearly blew a big lead in the ninth when Sant Boi scored six times, but prevailed 11-10. In the second game they celebrated a 9-5 win and a five-game lead in the standings. The FC Barcelona is hosting the Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz on Saturday.

Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz – Astros Valencia 4-0, 3-2

The Tenerife Marlins moved into second place in the standings of the Division de Honor with a sweep over the Astros Valencia. In game one Leslie Nacar (W 3-0) struck out ten in a complete game shutout to lead Puerto Cruz to a 4-0 win. He allowed just four hits and a walk in nine innings. Richard Montiel doubled twice, scored and drove in a run. Trevor Caughey (L 9-2) suffered his second loss of the season, giving up four runs (3 ER) on nine hits and two bb in eight frames.

In the second part of the twin bill Yancarlo Franco led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple and later scored the winning run on a double play groundball by Dewis Navarro. Sandel Cuevas had tied the game in the top of the frame with a RBI double. Yoel Hernandez (W 7-3) struck out six in two innings of wild relief to pick up the win. Eric Gonzalez (MPC) had conceded six hits, a run and four bb in seven innings. Pedro Pablo Belmonte (L 7-5) allowed nine hits, three runs and two bb in eight innings.

Sevilla Red Sox – San Inazio Bilbao 0-20 (6), 0-18 (5)

San Inazio Bilbao dispatched the Sevilla Red Sox with a pair of blowouts. In game one Bilbao scored in five of the six innings en route to a 20-0 shutout. Fidel Torres Mane (W 1-2) allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings for his first win of the season. Eight players crossed the plate at least twice. Tomas Alvarez hit a grand slam and drove in six. Ruben Cabrera went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Alejandro Pena (L 0-4) took the loss, getting charged with eight hits and six runs in two frames.

In the second game the Red Sox actually kept things close, before San Inazio blew things open with six runs in the fourth and nine in the fifth for an 18-0 win. Javier Flores went 3-for-3 with a homerun, three runs scored and four RBI. Alberto Magallon (W 5-8) issued three hits and a walk in five scoreless innings. Diego Corvelan (L 0-3) gave up nine hits, nine runs (3 ER) and a bb in 3 2/3 innings.

Baseball Navarra – CB Viladecans 8-11 (12), 6-5

Baseball Navarra and CB Viladecans settled for the split this weekend. In game one Viladecans broke a 7-7 tie with four runs in the top of the twelfth en route to an 11-8 win. Both teams had scored once in the tenth. CB had sent the contest into extra innings with a RBI groundout by Alex Tenllado in the top of the ninth. Denny Nino drove in three. Marc Jodar (W 3-1) received the win in relief of Carlos Luis Amaro. Hector Perozo (L 1-6) had replaced Juan Jose Lopez after five innings to take the loss.

In the second game Victor Martinez scored the winning run on a wild pitch of Eric Collado (L 0-1) with no outs in the bottom of the ninth to give Navarra a 6-5 win. After Viladecans had put four runs on the board in the top of the seventh, they had scored three in the bottom of the frame to tie the game. Adolfo Gonzalez went deep for Navarra, Miguel Catalan and Javier Monzon for CB. Yorking Cespedes (W 3-3) picked up the win in relief.

BARCELONA, Spain — Barcelona fans and athletes gathered in front of Camp Nou stadium on Thursday to protest the elimination of the club’s 80-year-old baseball team and the decision to slash funding for 12 minority sports teams.

About a hundred adult and children players from a variety of Barcelona’s amateur sports teams held a long banner in support of the endangered baseball team that read: “Don’t think about the season, think about the history: 80 years.”

“The feeling is one of shock,” FC Barcelona pitcher and first baseman Jason Friedman, a Chicago native, told The Associated Press. “Until this point it felt very secure, we felt that baseball was important to the club. … It has been a real blow to us.”

The actual competition in the Division de Honor has taken a back seat in the last two weeks, thanks to the decision by the board of directors at the FC Barcelona to drastically reduce the budget for all the non-football sections of the organization, including cutting baseball from the program. You can support baseball’s cause by attending the two games between the FC Barcelona and Halcones de Vigo on Saturday. First pitch at Montjuic is scheduled for 3pm. There is also a Facebook page.

Standings

While the FC Barcelona is on the verge of winning the championship in the Spanish Division de Honor, the future of Baseball and all the non-professional sections of the famous organization is in doubt. And this just a few days after the FC Barcelona won the UEFA Champions League.

Last week the board of directors of the FC Barcelona decided to reduce the budgets for the non-professional section and one of the first steps is to cut Baseball from the program, which has been part of the club since 1931. The rest of the non-professional sections cannot play in national or international championships next year, only in Catalonia. Also, with the exception of football, all the professional sections will have to work with a reduce budget in the coming years.

But Baseball is not going down without a fight. The responsible people are currently waiting for a meeting with the board of directors to convince them to undo the decision and allow Baseball back in the club and all sections back into national and international championships. Otherwise this topic is making huge news in local TV stations and news papers. On the upcoming weekend all fans should go to the ballpark in Montjuic to support the sport during the two-game series against Halcones de Vigo.

The loss of the FC Barcelona would be huge for European Baseball, so we all should try to help. Most of us probably won’t have the opportunity to travel to Barcelona, but you still can support the movement for example on Facebook. Mister-Baseball is going to keep you up to date about the issue.

Halcones de Vigo – Astros Valencia 1-8, 2-1

The Astros Valencia had to settle for a split in their twin bill with Halcones de Vigo. In game one Trevor Caughey (W 8-1) struck out ten in eight scoreless four-hit innings to lead the Astros to an 8-1 win. Sandel Cuevas doubled twice and drove in five. Ronny Materano (L 1-1) allowed one unearned run on four hits and three bb in six innings. Valencia scored seven of their eight runs in the last two frames.

In the second match a two-run single by Alejandro Carrillo in the bottom of the fifth was all Vigo needed for a 2-1 win, which was shortened to seven innings due to rain. Andoni Ortiz (W 3-1) allowed seven hits and an unearned run in seven innings. He struck out seven. Pedro Pablo Belmonte (L 7-3) was charged with two runs on seven hits in seven innings.

CB Sant Boi remains in second place after two wins over San Inazio Bilbao. In game one Rafael Rivas, William Domero and Daniel Sanchez combined for six RBI in an 8-5 win. The Tenerife Marlins lost another game in the race for the championship, splitting against Baseball Navarra. In game one Navarra prevailed 7-6 in ten innings thanks to RBIs by Victor Martinez and Hector Perozo in the first extra innings. Puerto Cruz tried to come back in the bottom of the frame, but managed only a RBI double by Dewis Navarro. Perozo, Luis Villanueva and Adolfo Gonzalez hit homeruns for the team from Pamplona. Navarro combined with Nestor Perez for four RBI. Perozo (W 1-5) also picked up the win in relief, Yoel Hernandez (L 6-3) took the loss.

In the second portion of the doubleheader, Eric Gonzalez (W 2-1) pitched a gem, allowing two hits and three walks in a seven-inning 10-0 shutout. He struck out eight. Richard Montiel reached base four time, including through a homerun. He also doubled and drove in two. Yorking Cespedes (L 2-3) issued seven hits, six runs (4 ER) and three bb in 3 2/3 frames.

Sevilla Red Sox – CB Viladecans 1-21, 0-16

The FC Barcelona won the Catalonian duel against CB Viladecans, sweeping the two-game set in the Spanish Division de Honor last weekend. On Saturday Barca took a 5-0 lead through six innings, looking to secure an easy victory. However Viladecans threatened to come back in the ninth, rallying for four runs with one out. But with a runner on third the game ended with a loss for the home team. Jesus Golindano went 4-for-4 at the plate. In the ninth he got the remaining two outs on the mound, bailing out his pitching staff. Jason Friedman drove in two for Barcelona. Ricardo Hernandez (W 9-0) struck out eight in seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and five walks. Carlos Luis Amaro (L 4-5) issued ten hits, five runs and two bb in seven frames. He also K’ed eight.

In the second match on Sunday morning Jorge Balboa (W 8-0) went the distance leading Barcelona to a 7-1 victory. He gave up just a third-inning single, a run and three walks in nine impressive innings. He struck out eleven. He retired the last 15 batters in a row. Pau Sancho tripled and drove in four. Oscar Angulo and Jesus Golindano scored twice. Pol Llopis (L 3-4) surrendered seven hits, three runs and four bb in seven innings.

Astros Valencia – CD Pamplona 3-2, 12-3

The Astros Valencia recovered from their two shutout losses to the FC Barcelona with a pair of wins over CD Pamplona. In game one Aaron Hornostaj provided the winning run in a 3-2 victory with a solo homerun in the third. Isaac Palencia homered for Pamplona. On the mound Trevor Caughey (W 7-1) out-dueled Alexis Fumero (L 3-8). The former Baltimore Orioles minor leaguer struck out 19 batters in a complete game win, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk. Fumero conceded eight hits, three runs and two bb in eight innings. He punched out nine.

In the second game Edgar Aineto went 4-for-4 with a homerun, a double and six RBI to lead the Astros to a 12-3 win. Whitney Robinson-Pierce also went deep, scored three times and drove in three. In a meeting between the top-ranked teams in Spanish Baseball the FC Barcelona extended his lead in the standings with a pair of shutouts against the Astros Valencia. Game one featured a thrilling pitcher’s duel between two of the most dominant hurlers in the Division de Honor this season. Barca won by a score of 1-0, as Ricardo Hernandez (W 8-0) allowed just a one-out single in the eighth and walks in the fourth and sixth. A fourth batter reached base on an error. However none of them got past first base. Hernandez struck out 13. Trevor Caughey (L 6-1) nearly matched him inning for inning, giving up just one run on five hits in eight frames, striking out eight. The lone run scored in the bottom of the seventh, when Pau Sancho singled in Jesus Golindano, who had reached with a double.

In the second game Jorge Balboa (W 7-0) and Oscar Gimenez combined for hold Valencia to six hits and four walks in eight scoreless innings. Four-run rallies in the first and second innings put the game out of reach early. Jesus Golindano hit a three-run homerun. Jose Luis Riera tripled twice to drive in three. Former FCB pitcher Pedro Pablo Belmonte (L 6-2) was the victim of the early power surge, as he was charged with eight runs (3 ER) on seven hits in just 1 2/3 innings.

San Inazio Bilbao – CD Pamplona 7-0, 3-2

San Inazio Bilbao also opened the second half of the season in Spain with a sweep. In game one Jose Romero (W 5-3) issued just one hit and two walks in seven scoreless innings to lead Bilbao to a 7-0 shutout over CD Pamplona. Markel Mendizabel and Fidel Mane closed out the one-hitter. Tony Alvarez scored three times, Edward Adames twice. Alexis Fumero (L 3-7) surrendered seven hits, six runs (5 ER) and two bb in five innings.

In the second game San Inazio overcame a 0-2 deficit to beat Pamplona 3-2. Javier Flores broke the 2-2 tie with a RBI single in the sixth, deciding the outcome. Kelvin Marianucci scored twice. Alberto Magallon (W 3-6) gave up ten hits, two runs and four bb in seven innings. Alberto Casanellas (L 2-5) conceded nine hits, three runs and two walks in 7 1/3 innings.

Halcones de Vigo – Baseball Navarra 8-7, 9-6

Halcones de Vigo stunned Baseball Navarra with two victories. In game one Marco Marques drove in Alejandro Carrillo with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth in an 8-7 win. One frame earlier Domingo Morillo had tied the game with his fourth hit. Adolfo Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with three runs and a RBI for Navarra. He missed the cycle by a homerun. Andoni Ortiz (W 1-0) got the win in relief. Juan Jose Lopez (L 1-3) was charged with the loss.

Halcones also came from behind in the second part of the twin bill, as they erased a 2-6 deficit en route to a 9-6 victory. Angel Virguez tied the game with a RBI single in the seventh. One inning later RBI singles by Alejandro Carrillo and Marco Marques plus a throwing error decided the outcome. Domingo Morillo again crossed the plate three times. Andoni Ortiz’ (W 2-0) number again was called in relief, as he shut out Navarra in the remaining 4 1/3 innings. Yorking Cespedes (L 2-1) took the loss.

CB Sant Boi – Sevilla Red Sox 15-0 (5), 8-0 (5)

CB Sant Boi dispatched the Sevilla Red Sox with a pair of lopsided shutouts, moving into second place in the Division de Honor standings. In game one the defending Spanish champion scored eleven runs in the opening frame on its way to a 15-0 rout. Xavier Civit drove in four. Rafael Rivas went 3-for-4 with three runs. Ten different players crossed the plate for Sant Boi. On the mound Eliezer Garcia (W 6-1) struck out two in five scoreless two-hit innings. Diego Torres (L 0-6) was charged with six hits, nine runs and two walks, while getting no out in the first.

In the second match Sant Boi scored all eight runs of an 8-0 shutout in the first three innings. This time not a mercy rule, but rain led to the early ending after five innings. William Domero highlighted the day with a grand slam. Daniel Martinez collected three hits and three RBI. Daniel Matias (W 1-0) struck out four in five innings, issuing two hits and a walk. Emili Lopez (L 1-7) allowed seven hits, eight runs and six bb in four innings.

Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz – CB Viladecans 2-4, 7-3

After slowly cutting the deficit towards the top teams in the league in the first half of the season CB Viladecans continued its strong showing with a split against the Tenerife Marlins this weekend. In game one the record Spanish champion scored four early runs in the first two innings en route to a 4-2 win. A bases clearing double by Rainny Peguero put CB up by four runs. Leslie Nacar answered for Puerto Cruz with a two-run homerun in the fifth. But otherwise the Marlins offense was shut down. Carlos Luis Amaro (W 4-4) picked up the win in a matchup of former Minor Leaguers against Eric Gonzalez (L 1-1). He allowed eight hits, two runs and a walk in nine innings, striking out eleven. Gonzalez conceded four hits, four runs (3 ER) and a bb in six innings, striking out seven.

In the second match Tenerife answered a two-run top of the first with five runs in the first three innings on its way to a 7-3 win and the split. Denny Nino and Miguel Valdes had three hits apiece for the guests from Catalonia. Ruben Rijkhof and Richard Montiel homered for the Marlins. Nestor Perez had three hits. Yoel Hernandez (W 5-2) allowed eleven hits, three runs (2 ER) and two bb in nine innings. Marc Jodar (L 2-1) issued eight hits, five runs (4 ER) and two walks in four-plus innings.

Press Release Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz

On the same fields the European Junior Championship will be played from July 4 to 10, the defending champions Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz held to their title for the forth consecutive year and the sixth time overall in the Junior Category. This year 13 teams lined up for the title, and the bracket divided them into 4 groups for the first round. Marlins had to win against Antorcha from Valencia, Arga from Navarra and Gava from Catalunya in order to advance to the quarterfinals as group winner where the match up was against last years finalist Sant Boi. The game was decided in the sixth inning by the 15 run mercy rule and Viladecans was up next in the semis. Marlins won that game 10-0 in seven innings to advance to the last and most important round.

The final against FC Barcelona resulted in an exiting match with a threat to come back from the runner up that was cut just in time by the team from the Canary Islands. Diego Piva was elected MVP thanks to his three wins, including the final, his 26 strikeouts in 17.1 innings and his solid offense in the semis and final for the Tenerife Marlins. Victor Serrano of Gava became the Batting Champion and Jose Maria Redin of Irabia was the best pitcher according to his ERA of 0.00 in 11 innings pitched.

In a matchup of the Spanish champions of the past two years and in a rematch of last week’s Copa del Rey finals, CB Sant Boi split a doubleheader against the Tenerife Marlins. In game one Eric Gonzalez (W 1-0), who played in the San Diego Padres organization in the past three years, allowed just three hits and three walks in six scoreless innings to lead Puerto Cruz to a 6-0 shutout. Leslie Nacar closed it out. Richard Montiel had the big hit at the plate with a three-run homerun in the fifth. Ruben Rijkhof drove in two with a single. Winston Marquez (L 0-1) surrendered five hits, four runs and nine walks in six innings, striking out eight.

In the second game reliever Miguel Rizo (L 3-3) threw away the ball after a bunt by Marc Carrillo, which helped Juan Manuel Salazar to score the winning run from second base in the bottom of the tenth of a 4-3 Sant Boi victory. Carrillo had tied the game with a solo shot in the eighth. Xavier Civit drove in two for CB, Richard Montiel for Tenerife. Yoel Hernandez (MPC) issued seven hits, three runs and a walk in 7 1/3 innings. Lowin Sacramento (W 7-2) went the distance, allowing five hits, three runs (2 ER) and six bb.

Halcones de Vigo – Sevilla Red Sox 13-2 (7), 5-4

Halcones de Vigo celebrated a sweep over the Sevilla Red Sox this weekend. In game one Vigo scored ten runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to a 13-2 win in seven innings. Domingo Morillo went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Marco Marques doubled twice and drove in three. Ronny Materano (W 1-0) conceded five hits, two runs and four bb in seven solid innings. Marfi Lopez (L 0-1) was charged with three hits, five runs (3 ER) and four walks in four innings.

In the second game Halcones scored the winning run on a walk-off RBI single by Carlos Millan in the bottom of the ninth prevailing 5-4. Two players on each side collected triples in the game. Marco Marques again drove in two. Jose Manuel Pimentel (VIG) allowed four hits, three runs (2 ER) and two walks in six innings. Jose Delio Cabral (W 1-1) got the win in relief. Emili Lopez (L 1-6) was charged with 13 hits, five runs and two bb in 8 2/3 innings.

CD Pamplona – Baseball Navarra 5-4, 9-15

In the battle for the bragging rights in Pamplona, CD Pamplona and Baseball Navarra split a two-game set at Burlada. In game one CD celebrated a 5-4 victory. Gabriel Ernesto Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a homerun and four RBI. His two-run single in the bottom of the eighth turned out to be crucial, as Hector Perozo cut down the deficit for Navarra to a run with a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth. Alexis Fumero (W 3-6) struck out ten in nine innings, allowing nine hits, four runs (3 ER) and five bb. Hector Perozo (L 0-5) got the start for Navarra, issuing three runs on seven hits in six innings.

In the second match Navarra scored seven runs in the first three innings to build a quick 7-0 lead. They never looked back, as they won 15-9 in the end. A curiosity happened in the seventh inning, when both teams put seven runs on the board. Victor Martinez, Adolfo Gonzalez and Hector Perozo combined for ten RBI for Navarra. Benson Salas hit a grand slam for Pamplona. Andres Casado (NAV) allowed five hits, two runs and five bb in 4 2/3 innings. Yorking Cespedes (W 2-0) picked up the win. Alberto Casanellas (L 2-4) surrendered seven hits, five runs and two walks in two innings.

FC Barcelona – San Inazio Bilbao 2-1, 5-2

The FC Barcelona extended its lead in the Division de Honor with a pair of wins over San Inazio Bilbao. In game one Ricardo Hernandez (W 7-0) struck out 14 batters in eight strong innings, allowing six hits, a run and three walks. Barcelona won by a score of 2-1. RBI singles by Jose Luis Riera and Jesus Golindano in the third provided the necessary run support. Asier Izaguirre had a RBI single in the sixth for Bilbao. Fidel Torres Mane was charged with two runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Jose Romero relieved him and kept San Inazio in the game.

In the second match Barcelona went up 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth through a sac fly and a run-down situation en route to a 5-2 win. Jesus Golindano went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Jorge Balboa (W 6-0) struck out ten in seven innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and three bb. Alberto Magallon (L 2-6) conceded ten hits, five runs (3 ER) and two bb in 7 1/3 innings.

Astros Valencia – CB Viladecans 6-0, 0-1

The Astros Valencia dropped to two games behind the FC Barcelona in the standings following a split against CB Viladecans. In game one Trevor Caughey (W 6-0) struck out eleven batters in nine scoreless innings to lead the Astros to a 6-0 shutout. The former minor leaguer issued seven hits and two walks going the distance. Antonio Salazar and Chris Maceira combined for four RBI at the plate. Carlos Luis Amaro (L 2-4) collected seven Ks, but also gave up five runs on eleven hits in seven innings.

In the second match an error allowed it Denny Nino to score the lone run of a 1-0 Viladecans victory in the top of the fourth. Otherwise the pitchers had the upper hand. Pol Llopis (W) won the duel over Pedro Pablo Belmonte (L). Llopis issued six hits and two walks in nine innings. Belmonte was responsible for seven hits, an unearned run and two bb, also going the distance.
