On Thursday evening the Amateur Draft of Major League Baseball got underway with center fielder Mickey Moniak becoming the number-one draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies. One player with somewhat European ties got selected in the first round as well. The Washington Nationals chose shortstop Carter Kieboom as 28th player. He is the brother of catcher Spencer Kieboom, who played for the Dutch National Team in the past.
