Canada scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to break up a 5-5 tie. They won 9-5 against Australia and took the four-game-series with two victories (one tie).
Mike SAUNDERS drove in the winning run with a triple. Ryan RADMANOVICH and Matt ROGELSTAD each had two RBI. Four players scored twice.
Daniel BERG had three hits for the home team.
Starter James AVERY threw three no-hit innings, walking two. Reliever Brooks MC NIVEN was charged with seven hits, four runs (2 ER) and two base on balls in three innings. Aaron WIDEMAN (W 1-0) and Tim BURTON (all CAN) came into the game after them.
Chris MODWAY gave up four hits, four runs (2 ER) and three BB in three-plus innings. Matt TIMMS, who started the eighth, didn’t get an out and allowed four runs on four hits. Brad TIPPETT and Paul WEICHARD also got their work in.
Australia has to cut several players on their exhibition roster and will announce their players for the Olympic qualifier soon. Both teams are travelling to Taiwan next week to compete against Germany, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and South Africa for the remaining three spots in Beijing.
