The Canadian supporters don’t need to wait until tomorrow. They defeated South Korea 4-3 today and secured a spot in the Olympic games this summer. They also took over the top spot in the standings of the Final Olympic Tournament.
The Asian team started strong. Jong Wook LEE drove in leadoff hitter Yong Kyu LEE for a fast lead. But the Canadians came right backand answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Mike SAUNDERS drove in Adam STERN to tie the game. Matt ROGELSTAD followed with a two-run-homerun. Nick WEGLARZ added a solo-homerun in the fourth.
This was their life insurance as South Korea started a rally in the ninth. Dae Ho LEE and Taek Keun LEE reached home through RBI’s by Jin Man PARK and Joo Chan KIM (3-4).
Starter James AVERY allowed one run on four hits in four innings, striking out four. Scott RICHMOND replaced him and received the win.
Hyun Jin RYU was charged with three hits and three unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings for the loss.
