Canada held down Puerto Rico 6-2 on Saturday evening in Grosseto to pick up third place at the Baseball World Cup. 1,000 saw the game at the Jannella ballpark in Tuscany. Canada took a fast 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to RBI singles by Shawn Bowman and Tim Smith and a sac fly by Jimmy van Ostrand. Puerto Rico was able to cut the deficit to a run in the second on a two-run shot by Jose Valentin. But they couldn’t bring a runner home afterwards.

The maple leafs on the other hand extended the gap at the end of the match. Jonathan Malo added RBI triple in the eighth and Van Ostrand a two-run homerun in the ninth. Jamie Richmond (CAN) gave up three hits, two runs and a walk in four innings. Trystan Magnuson once again picked up a win in relief, his fourth overall in the tournament. Melvin Pizarro didn’t register one single out and took the loss after giving up three runs on two hits.
