The Netherlands had a perfect start into the 2009 Baseball World Cup. Opening the second round of the tournament in Amsterdam, Sidney de Jong hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Dutch team to a 4-2 win over South Korea.
The Asian squad, which played the first round in Sundbyberg, Sweden, led since runs by Boung-Gon Jeung and Hun-Gon Kim in the third. The home team counted with a RBI triple by Sharlon Schoop in the fourth to cut the deficit in a half, until de Jong completed the comeback.
Tom Stuifbergen started and allowed four hits, two runs and a walk in 4 1/3 innings. Diegomar Markwell picked up the win in relief. Ji-Woong Yoon took the loss after seven-plus innings. He issued five hits, three runs and four bb.
