Jimmy Morales, Sandor Mayorga, Edgard Espinoza and Danilo Sotelo combined to hit six homeruns, five of them in the first three frames, en route to a 10-0 shutout of Nicaragua against Great Britain. Diego Sandino (W 1-0) and Berman Reyes combined for seven three-hit shutout innings. Alex Smith (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, seven runs and two bb in just 1 1/3 innings.

After Croatia had taken a 3-2 lead with a Josip Brozinic three-run shot in the top of the fourth, Japan scored eleven runs between the fourth and the seventh to win 13-3. Yoshinobu Kotegawa and Go Yamaoka homered for the World Baseball Classic winner. Motoki Higa received the win after three innings of perfect four-strikeout relief. Grgur Marusic (L 0-1) took the loss.
