The Dutch national team had a successful start into the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup. They defeated Chinese Taipei 2-1 behind a strong pitching performance of Shairon Martis of the Washington Nationals and a two-run single by Vince Rooi in the bottom of the second inning. Martis, who is no longer on the 40-man roster of the Nationals, allowed just three hits, a run and a walk in seven strong innings. Tom Stuifbergen closed it out with two frames of scoreless one-hit relief. 2000 people saw the first game in Aguadulce. The Netherlands will be facing European counterpart Greece in another Group 1 matchup on Monday, again at Remon Cantera stadium.
