Rusney Castillo and Jose Abreu hit solo homeruns in the third and fifth to bring Cuba en route to a 5-1 win over Italy. While Cuba improves to 5-0, Italy drops to 3-2. Freddy Alvarez (W, 1-0) gave up just one run on seven hits in seven-plus innings for the win. Italy was only able to avoid the shutout, scoring in the eighth inning. Carlos Richetti (L, 0-1) conceded six hits, three runs and two bb in six-plus innings.
