The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg announced on Monday that they will trim the roster for the 2010 season in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. After having one of the biggest player pools in the past few years, six key assets will leave the club. For the first time in eight years, the Buchbinder Legionaere aren’t going to play in the European Cup and will focus solely on the Baseball-Bundesliga.
Outfielder/designated hitter Michael Weigl, infielder Alexander Lauterbach, catcher Markus Gienger, infielder Oskar von Mosch will not return as well as the Americans Eddie Aucoin and Daniel Husband. The coaching staff wants to give their prospects more playing time next year, even though they still will aim for their second national title after 2008.
The destination of starting pitcher Aucoin is already known since a few months, as he is joining the Dutch club Konica Minolta Pioniers. The 31-year-old Husband is looking to get a coaching job somewhere in Europe. Weigl, Lauterbach, Gienger and Von Mosch don’t have found a new club either.
