After bringing in Christian Nsien, Alex Baham and Jesse Lacasse, the Bonn Capitals completed its 2010 roster with catcher Jonathan Marshall and starting pitcher Bryce Schoening. The team of new head coach Mirko Heid hopes to erase memories after missing the playoffs in the German Baseball-Bundesliga for two straight years.
The 28-year-old Marshall already played for Bonn in 2008. He is supposed to split time behind the plate with Baham. The Texan, who played in independent leagues between 2004 and 2007, batted .250 (OBP .320/SLG .321) with one homerun, five doubles, 14 runs scored and 21 RBI in 28 games two years ago.
Schoening is a 22-year-old left-hander from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. After going to High School in Glendora, California he attended Fullerton College and Cal State Northridge. The past two seasons he pitched for the Matadors in the Big West Conference. In 2008 he had a 3.27 ERA with 16 strikeouts (four walks) in 22 innings. One year later he had an ERA of 9.00 and four strikeouts (no walks) in nine innings.
