Bologna shutouts Cariparma behind Matos’ 11 K’s

Jesus Matos is back himself and the powerful offense of BOLOGNA was no match for CARIPARMA. After his non-optimal start last weekend, Matos pitched six scoreless innings, striking out eleven on Friday. He gave up just three hits for his first win of the season. Martin Vargas relieved him and closed out the contest with four K’s in three one-hit innings.

Ryner Bautista, Claudio Liverziani and Richard Austin led the offense. All three hit ball over the fence and combined for eleven RBI and seven runs scored.

Josmir Romero allowed seven hits, six runs and three walks in 4 2/3 innings for the loss.

Danesi Nettuno - Montepaschi Grosseto 1-6

GROSSETO won also the second game of their series against NETTUNO. They took a fast 3-0 lead in the third through a two-run double by Luca Bischeri and a RBI-single by Lorenzo Avagnina. DANESI cut the deficit to two runs in the fourth on a RBI-single by Guiseppe Mazzanti. However MONTEPASCHI added three insurance runs in the end on RBI-singles of Avagnina and Gabriele Ermini in addition to a sac fly by Jairo Ramos.

Chris Cooper got his first start in Italy. He allowed just three hits, an unearned run and two walks in five innings. He struck out five. Giovanni Carrara opposed him. The former Major Leaguer was charged with twelve hits, five runs and four base on balls in 6 2/3 innings.

The home opener for the promoted RANGERS went not that way, as they might have hoped for. Claudio Signorini and Matt Beech led RIMINI to a 10-3 victory.

Signorini had four hits and a walk in five plate appearances, driving in five. Luis Galavoti reached base four times and scored three runs. Johnny Carvajal had three hits for REDIPUGLIA.

Beech struck out twelve in six innings pitched. He threw 102 pitches for the win, 73 for strikes. He allowed three runs (2 ER) on six hits. Diego Zorzenon took the loss after giving up seven hits, seven runs and six bb in 4 1/3 innings.

SAN MARINO profited from the control problems of the GODO pitching staff and won 10-5. They took the lead through five runs in the fourth. DE ANGELIS tried to rally two times, but T&A always answered with runs on their own to held on to the advantage.

They used five hits and twelve walks to score the ten runs. Seth La Fera, Francesco Imperiali and Simone Albanese each reached home twice. Martin Vazquez, who walked four times, drove in two.

Mattew Marrone struck out ten in 5 1/3 solid innings for the win. He gave up five hits, three runs and a walk. Matteo Galeotti (GOD) allowed one hit, five runs and six bb in three-plus innings.
