After winning the opener of the best-of-three series on Thursday, BOLOGNA also won the second game on Friday and advanced into the Coppa Italia Finals. They used a nine-run sixth to overcome a 0-4 deficit in a 12-6 victory against GROSSETO. UNIPOL BANCA now faces Italian Series loser DANESI NETTUNO in the finals (best-of-three).
MONTEPASCHI started strong, scoring four runs in the first three innings for a 4-0 lead. Andrea Sgnaolin hit a solo homerun. Antony Caracciolo hit a RBI triple. But the regular season winner of the Italian Baseball League countered in big style in the sixth. FORTITUDO batted around and put nine runs on the board on six hits, highlighted by Joseph Mazzuca’s three-run triple on which same play he also scored thanks to an error by shortstop Riccardo Ferretti. Diego Bonci and Manuel Gasparri homered in the seventh and eighth to add three more insurance runs.
Fabio Betto (BOL) stayed long enough on the mound to pick up the win. He allowed eight hits, five runs and two walks in six-plus innings. Lorenzo Avagnina (GRO) received the starting nod going 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, five runs and four base on balls to take the loss.
