Great Britain – Ukraine 4-2
Great Britain improved to 4-0 at the B-Level European Championship in Zurich with a 4-2 win over the Ukraine. Sam Wiley with a RBI single and Brett Rosen with a sac fly gave GB a decisive 4-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, putting them en route to victory lane. Wiley finished with two RBI. Matt Roxburgh scored twice. Spencer Kreisberg and Daniel Cooper combined to concede seven hits, two runs and a walk through nine innings. Kreisberg earned the win, striking out eight in eight innings. Artem Lopata took the loss for the Ukraine, issuing seven hits, four runs (3 ER) and three bb in six-plus innings.
Poland – Slovenia 12-4
Poland evened its record to 2-2 with a lopsided 12-4 win over Slovenia. Nine of their 12 runs were scored between the fourth and the sixth, as they ran away with the game. Milosz Paprocki went 4-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Five players scored twice. On the mound Karol Lapczyk gave up six hits, three runs and five walks in seven innings. Rok Vadas got charged with a complete game loss.
Switzerland – Bulgaria 2-3
In the evening the hopes for Switzerland died. They lost 2-3 to Bulgaria, which improved to 3-1 and remain the surprise team of the tournament. Bulgaria took a quick 2-1 lead, but Switzerland was able to tie the contest in the fourth. But they didn’t have any answer for Eugenii Chernozemsky’s tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth. Martin Andonov scored the game-winner, having reached with a two-out error. Stefan Koller twice had tied the game for Switzerland. Saentis Zeller twice drove him in, in the second with a single and in the fourth with a sac fly. Alexander Blagoev allowed eight hits, two runs and two walks in eight solid innings. Tobias Siegrist got charged with the loss, keeping Bulgaria to two hits, an unearned run and a walk in five otherwise brilliant relief innings.
