Even though the 2011 Season is barely over, the Bonn Capitals already have news for the 2012 Season. B.J. Roper-Hubbert will return to Bonn after a phenomenal first season in the German Bundesliga in 2011.
The Capitals’ best hitter of the season will also take over as hitting coach for the Bundesliga Team assisting head coach Mirko Heid, as well as taking over as head coach for Bonn’s second team in the Regionalliga Northwest.
“B.J. is an absolute leader and in his first year he was already my right-hand-man on the field. I am very pleased that we were able to sign him as a player and coach. Especially our younger players will benefit from his knowledge and experience. He represents the style of play, which I want to teach to my players,” so Heid about the 25-year-old American.
In his first year Roper-Hubbert hit five Homeruns in the Bundesliga and had a .356-batting-average in 27 games. “I chose to come back for a multitude of reasons”, Roper-Hubbert explains, “The Bonn Capitals are dedicated to becoming one of the top teams in Germany, and that is definitely something I would like to be apart of. This past season was an amazing experience and the team camaraderie was something I’ll always remember. Competition-wise we were able to achieve more than we had in past years and I’m excited because I feel like we will improve on last year.”
The 25-year-old will return to Bonn in February 2012 and take over as hitting coach during the pre-season. His signing is only the first step for a successful season in 2012 for the Bonn Capitals in the German Bundesliga.
