The 51-year-old American Bill Froberg takes over as head coach of the Dutch Hoofdklasse club MR COCKER HCAW. Rogier van Zon of Honkbalsite.com reports on Tuesday evening that he will succeed Jurjan Koenen, who resigns to spend more time with his family. He made his Hoofdklasse debut as a player for HCAW in 1988 and played in a total of 691 games for the club. No other player in the history of Dutch Baseball has played that many matches for just one team. After ending his career Koenen became coach for HCAW.
Froberg, who also was an assistant coach with the Dutch national team, most recently at the World Baseball Classic this March, returns to the team, which he led into the Holland Series in 2004 and 2005, losing twice to NEPTUNUS. He also coached in the Hoofdklasse with HAARLEM NICOLS, TWINS, QUICK AMERSFOORT and NEPTUNUS. Ronald Jaarmsa will continue to be an assistant coach with HCAW.
