Baseball Australia announced major changes to its flagship, the Australian Baseball League, on the eve of opening day in the ABL. The Australian Baseball League is looking to expand from currently six to eight teams for the 2018/2019 season.
Additionally, independent licenses will be offered to operate the existing six teams. The main focus beside the Australian market will be Asia with pro leagues in Japan, Korea and Taiwan bringing in more and more players into the ABL to give them exposure and playing time during the offseason in the northern hemisphere. More information will be announced in the coming months.
The eighth season of the Australian Baseball League is slated to start this coming weekend. It’s the second under full ownership of Baseball Australia.
