The 21-year-old Aruban southpaw Conrad Orman joins the Italian Baseball League club REGGIO EMILIA. His uncle is Richard Orman, who set the all-time win record for left-hander in the Dutch Hoofdklasse and pitched 15 years in the Netherlands.
Conrad Orman was born in Oranjestad, Aruba and signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2004 as an amateur free agent. The following two seasons the teenager pitched in the Venezuelan Summer League, getting his feet wet in professional baseball. He was promoted to the Gulf Coast League affiliate in 2007, going 8-2 with an ERA of 4.97 in 14 games (six starts) for the O’s. In 2008 he started with the Appalachian League team of the O’s and struggled, allowing 18 runs (17 ER) on 17 hits in just 7 1/3 innings and got released.
After the sudden season end in the United States he joined the Hoofdklasse club KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS, where his uncle Richard Orman served as pitching coach in 2008. Conrad Orman already had made a few appearances for the PIONIERS in 2005 and 2006, including a start in game one of the 2006 Holland Series against CORENDON KINHEIM. Last year Orman started in three games during the regular season, giving up ten hits, five runs (3 ER) and ten walks in 16 1/3 innings, striking out 18. He will be accompanied by Abe Alvarez and William Suarez as newcomers on the REGGIO pitching staff.
