The two Serie A2 candidates to get a spot in next year’s Italian Baseball League ANZIO and PATERNO split the first two games of the best-of-five series on Saturday.

ANZIO overcame deficits twice in game one of the series to defeat PATERNO 6-5 thanks to a solo homerun by Gregory Del George in the bottom of the seventh. The WARRIORS had taken a 3-0 lead in the first frame and were up 5-3 midway thru the sixth, but ASD was able to answer shortly after. Nelwin Sforza, Weltin Cabrera (2 RBI) and Giuseppe Sciacca (2 RBI) hit three homeruns to put four of the five PATERNO runs on the board. Vincenzo D’Addio went had three of the 14 ANZIO hits and drove in two. Mauro Salsiccia (W 1-0) picked up the win after allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief. Starter Valerio Roda had given up five runs on four hits in six innings. Franklyn Torres (L 0-1) issued 14 hits, six runs and three bb in eight innings.

PATERNO again scored five runs in the second match on Saturday, but this time it was enough to celebrate a win, as they prevailed 5-3. Simon Astuto scored two runs for the WARRIORS. Enzo Sanna accounted for all three runs for ANZIO, twice reaching home on hits by Nestore Morville. Jose Quintero (W 1-0) struck out nine in a complete game, surrendering nine hits, three runs and a walk. Fraylin Florian (L 0-1) gave up four unearned runs on five hits and five bb in six innings. He struck out ten, but didn’t get much help from his defense, which committed a whopping seven errors in the game, though he was responsible for three of them.
