Amsterdam Pirates ready for 2008 season
The L&D Amsterdam Pirates, who had reached the playoffs of the Dutch Major League, are ready for next season. They completed their transactions and are supposed to compete at the same level as 2007. New head coach Rikkert FANEYETE welcomes five new players.
Pitchers Ryan MURPHY and Loek VAN MIL are coming from RCH Heemstede and HCAW Bussum. Although VAN MIL is playing in the Minnesota Twins organization and should be unavailable for this reason until September.
Catcher Maikel BENNER (ADO Den Haag) in addition to infielders Derrick FRANCISCA (Almere’90) and Marvin BLEIJ (ADO) will add depth to the line-up.
Besides former coach Louis HOFER, four players will leave the team. Pitchers Tom STUIFBERGEN (Corendon Kinheim) and DJ CLEOFA (RCH) stay as well in the Netherlands as infielder Roderick SIMON (Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam) does. Infielder Glenn MASCOLL returned to his home country to play for the Waverly Baseball Club.
The coaching staff will be completed by pitching coach Tom GEESTMAN, third base coach Tim MINER and first base coach Randell HANNAH.
