Alex Liddi had quite a few exciting days in the American Minor League system. Last week he started in the California-Carolina-League all-star game at third base and later was named to the roster of the World Team, which plays a selection of American prospects in the Futures Game in St. Louis during the MLB all-star break. On Sunday he was part of a record-setting game in his California league.
Liddi’s Mavericks lost by a final score of 18-33 against Lake Elsinore Storm. The 51 runs combined set a new league-record, as well as the 32 hits for the Storm or the 4 hours, 10 minutes they needed for the nine innings. Lake Elsinore was led by Matt Clark, who went five-for-six with two homeruns, a triple, seven runs scored and five RBI. Five more players of his team collected four hits. Leadoff hitter Brad Chalk had nine at bats.
Liddi went two-for-six with a double and two runs scored. Three of his teammates also got four hits, while four drove in four apiece. James McOwen extended his hitting streak to 36 games, also a new California League record.

I was lucky enough to attend a game of the Mavericks in Adelanto last year. Nice cosy stadium, but in the middle of nowhere, which is probably the reason that they have trouble in attracting spectators. Maybe that is going better now they have won the first half of the season and are play offs bound.
