Italian right-handed pitcher Alessandro Maestri is going to play in Mexico this season according to a report by GrandeSlam.net. The 31-year-old former minor leaguer with the Chicago Cubs is going to play for Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz.
Following his release from the Cubs organization he played one season in Independent League ball in 2011 and then set his sights towards Asia. He worked his way up from a Japanese independent league to become the first player developed in Europe to play in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), when he joined the Orix Buffaloes in 2012.
He stayed four seasons in total with mixed results and then moved to Korea to play for the Hanwha Eagles in the Korea Baseball Organisation. Now he is back in the Americas.
