Marco Stoovelaar pointed out this week during his preseason reports from the Dutch Hoofdklasse that ADO signed a member of the British National Team for the upcoming season. Catcher/pitcher Aeden McQueary-Ennis debuted for The Hague based club with two strikeouts in an inning of scoreless relief against the EURO STARS.
Born on September 19, 1984 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire England, McQueary-Ennis attended Georgia State University (NCAA Div. I) in the United States until 2007 and signed as an undrafted amateur free agent with the San Diego Padres organization after graduating. He split time between their affiliates in the Northwest (Low-A) and California Leagues (High-A) the past two years, before moving on to the Single-A team of the Pittsburgh Pirates in Hickory during the 2008 season.
During his minor league career, McQueary-Ennis batted .191 (OBP .338/SLG .227) in 74 games. He was signed as a catcher by the Padres, but is certainly also able to help out from the mound, being blessed with a 90+ MPH arm. In 2005 he played for the German Baseball-Bundesliga club FUERTH PIRATES and batted .265 (.375/.342) and threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings during the 2007 European Championships for Great Britain.
