Former L&D Amsterdam hurler Adam Blackley threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings to lead the Melbourne Aces to a 4-0 shutout over Canberra Cavalry on Friday in the Australian Baseball League. He allowed just two hits and a pair of walks to get Melbourne into the win column. Mariekson Gregorius (1-4, SS, throwing error) and Donald Lutz (0-4, RF-1B) played the whole nine innings for Canberra.
In the other ballparks the Brisbane Bandits and the Sydney Blue Sox split a doubleheader. In the afternoon affair Brisbane celebrated a 4-3 victory after twelve innings. Akira Nakamura got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run. In the night cap Chris Oxspring (W 2-0) faced just two batters over the minimum in a one-hit shutout to lead Sydney to a 4-0 win. In Perth the Heat first blew a 4-0 lead against Adelaide Bite in the last two frames before winning 6-4 on a walk-off two-run homerun by Ronnie Welty in the bottom of the twelfth.
