Canada rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth to earn an 8-8 tie against Australia. Both teams had split the first two games of the series. They meet again Sunday.
The Aussies had scored five runs during the first two frames to take a fast 5-0 lead. Although they managed just seven hits on Saturday, they deleted the memories of the two-hit performance from Friday.
They added some more runs and were up by a score of 8-2 after six. However the maple leafs came back in the ninth to force an extra-inning. They called the game midway through the tenth.
Canada’s sluggers Mike SAUNDERS and Emerson FROSTAD combined for five RBI in the ninth through two homeruns. Stubby CLAPP had three hits in five at-bats.
Glenn WILLIAMS was two for three with two runs scored and a RBI for Australia. Seven different batters drove in runs.
Brett GRAY, who started for the guests, was hit hard. He gave up five hits, five runs and three walks in three innings. Reliever Steve GREEN impressed with five strikeouts during two perfect innings to finish the game. Scott RICHMOND and Mike KUSIEWICZ also appeared on the mound.
Home starter Mark KELLY struck out four in four six-hit innings. PJ BEVIS and Brendan WISE blew the lead. Drew NAYLOR struggled with three hits, two runs (1 ER) and three base on balls in three innings of relief.
