by John Baum

CARDS STAY PERFECT AGAINST EAGLES
Saturday in Bern, the Cardinals, (8-0), beat the Reussbuehl Eagles,(1-5), handily in both ends of the doubleheader. Game one featured 17 strikeouts from Cards pitcher as Chris Beyeler remained perfect on the season, striking out eight in five innings, moving to 4-0. Chris also kept alive his personal winning streak, he has now won twelve straight games. The Cardinals overcame three solo homeruns by Ryan Rothford, Rudy Vargas, and J. Sierra to cruise to a 9-4 victory. Stefan Haltmeier, (0-2), took the loss for the Eagles as the Cards were led offensively by Angelo Rodriguez’ three hits and two RBI’s. Tobias Imboden, (0-0), took the mound for the final four innings, recording nine strikeouts, while allowing only one more Eagle to score.

Game two featured Severin Fries’ first start of the season. Before he had a chance to pitch though, his team ran out to a 5-0 lead. The runs coming on five hits, including back-to-back homeruns for John Baum and Johnny Perigos. Jerome Muller,(1-2), was roughed up, lasting less than two innings, giving up eight runs, on nine hits to take the loss. Fries would struggle with his control in the first inning, loading the bases before coming out unscathed. After the shaky first he found his groove, leaving the Eagles off the scoreboard, surrendering only three hits, while striking out four in four innings of work. The Cards offense would continue to pound out hits, totaling 15 in six innings, while finishing the rout at 16-0. The offense led by Baum, 3-4 , HR, 2B, 3RBI, 4 RUNS; and Perigos, 3-4 HR, 2B, 3RBI, 3 RUNS.

It was Blackbee’s first win of the season. Stefan Koller and Mario Cuevas both went 2-3 in the contest. The two wins move the Flyers into sole position of second place. The Indians drop into a fourth place tie with the Zurich Challengers. Martinez, (0-1), received the loss for the Indians in game two.

BARRACUDAS TAKE TWO FROM STRUGGLING FROGS

Game one was a close affair before the ‘Cudas were able to add two runs in the seventh. Jeff Mottl had to leave the Game after one inning with a sore elbow. Berchtold relieved him for two innings, but it was Coma who pitched six shutout innings to ensure the 9-5 win.
