The Telegraph reported this past weekend that Major League Baseball is in talks with the operators of the 2012 Olympic Stadium to bring MLB games to London as early as 2017. The Olympic Stadium is currently under facelift and will be home of West Ham United starting next summer. The facelift includes a reduction of the seating capacity from 80,000 to 54,000. The Telegraph is recycling a quote from 2012 by former MLB Europe chief Clive Russell, which stated that MLB already measured the venue. London already is hosting successfully games of the NFL and NBA. MLB’s European offices are also located in the city.
