German Softball: Tornados loses opener
The MANNHEIM TORNADOS, who didn’t lose a single game during the regular season 2007 and won the championship afterwards, lost their season opener last weekend. They had to settle for a split in Freising, when the GRIZZLIES scored three runs in the bottom of seventh to win game one by a score of 8-7. MANNHEIM took revenge in the second part of the doubleheader, defeating FREISING 6-1 behind the eight strikeout, one-hit performance of Sonja Garnett.
The KNIGHTS, who will open their newly renovated ballpark this week, also split their opening doubleheader. The NIGHTMARES used a nine-run first in game one to win 9-4. HAMBURG scored three runs in the fourth of game two and hold on to the thin lead to defeat NEUNKIRCHEN 5-4.
